I’ve never had massage before. Do I have to take off all my clothes?
No, you don’t have to. Massage is more beneficial when it is skin on skin and a lubricant (oil) is used. You can undress to your comfort level, and the massage therapist will work around it. The massage therapist will only undrape the area that is going to be worked on. For example, if the therapist is working on the back, you would be lying on your front and only your back would be uncovered.

Why do I have to fill out a Health History Form?
The massage therapist needs to know all of your health information to make sure that the massage is safe for you. Some of the techniques may not be appropriate and could actually make your case worse; which is why it is so important to fill out the form honestly. RMT’s are well educated in a variety of different conditions. All of the questions you are asked are designed so the therapist can attain the knowledge they need so that the best treatment is achieved for you. All the information you give the therapist is confidential.

What’s the difference between Registered Massage Therapists (RMT’s) and a masseuse / massager?
Registered Massage Therapist’s have gone to school for over 2200 hours. They are educated in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Hydrotherapy, Remedial Exercise, Medical Terminology, Kinesiology, Palpation, Assessments, Advanced Techniques, and more. In addition, a massage performed by an RMT is covered by many health insurance companies.

How often should I come for a massage?
It will be different for everyone. Depending on what kind of treatment is needed, your therapist will provide you their professional opinion as to your next recommended treatment. As a general guideline, if you are in good health, every 6-8 weeks. For other specific conditions, it may require more frequent visits.

What are the benefits I can expect from a massage?
There are a multitude of benefits from receiving a massage. Massage always encourages increased blood flow, relaxation, decreased muscle soreness, decreased pain, and decreased tension. The list is endless.

If I need multiple treatments, why is it better to have shorter treatments often?
The body always responds better to treatments that are short and more frequent so that the “layers” of the problem are peeled back slowly and have the time to heal in between treatments. You’re better off to have 2 half hours treatments weekly rather than a 1 hour treatment for that week.

What type of massage do Registered Massage Therapists do?
RMT’s are trained in Swedish Massage. We can also perform basic Myofascial work, Manual Lymph Drainage, and minimal Joint Play movements. Anything else must be taken as a separate course.
